Micro Needling

The Technology of Micro Needling known also as CIT, or Collagen Induction Therapy

As discussed during consultation, tiny needles are used to create micro-injuries to the skin in a controlled and sterile fashion resulting in naturally stimulated collagen and elastin production. This induction of the natural skin process results in improvement and softening of wrinkles and age-related damage to your skin. One common concern I have been asked during the free consultations has been related to the effects of micro needling on scars.

Sometimes, the issue is that the scar is lighter or darker in color than the surrounding skin. In other cases, the scar is thicker or wider than desired and considered too noticeable for its location on the body.

My answers to these individuals and their questions is obviously very personal to each client depending on the type of scar, its appearance, and location on the body. No surgery or technology will make any scar go away completely. However, the benefits of micro needling is that since it does stimulate your body to produce new tissue in a controlled manner, there is a positive effect on all areas treated.

Darker areas tend to lighten, and lighter areas tend to darken as a result of the micro needling assuming more of the coloration of the surrounding tissue. This phenomenon results in the scar appearance improving and looking less prominent.

Additionally, the thickness and depth of scars tend to be lessened through the remodeling process and as more new collagen is produced in a more controlled and organized manner. Scientific studies of this technology have shown consistent improved appearance and even a perceived ” glow ” to the skin as a result of the new tissue and skin growth.

No one can make a scar completely disappear, as damage has already been done. Still, micro needling is a method to make scars look better and less noticeable.

Since micro needling can be used on all parts of the body, it is indeed an excellent option. Most people need a series of 3 treatments to see optimal results, although some scars, especially deeper acne and traumatic scars, may need 6-8 sessions to achieve desired goals.
